Before his brother Dimebag Darrell was shot and murdered on stage in Columbus, OH in 2004 Vinnie Paul played drums with him in one of the most successful metal bands in history, Pantera. After Pantera disbanded they went on to form Damageplan, but before that band could get any real legs behind them Dime was shot and killed on December 8, 2004, the same day John Lennon was shot only 24 years later. After a few years not on stage Vinnie hooked up with Chad & Greg from Mudvayne and Tom & Jerry from Nothingface. Jerry has since been replaced on bass by former Damageplan bassist Bob Zilla. Vinnie gets in the Hangar this week to discuss Hellyeah, his brother and if would ever sit down in a room with former Pantera singer Phil Anselmo ever again.
We are also going to hear from Vinnie’s band bate Greg as we go In the Vault with Mudvayne from the year 2000. Greg was on a radio show in Belgium talking about their sound.
Then we are laying down a Then and Now from the most metal of Grunge bands, Alice in Chains. Friday April 5th was the anniversary of Layne Staley’s death so our Then will be from Facelift and the now from their 2nd album with William Duvall on vocals ‘The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here’ due out May 14th.
Finally this week’s heavy metal soundtrack recommendation is from the horror movie based (loosely) on the video game Alone in the Dark. The soundtrack is a little extreme just like the movie.
Join us for 3 hours of classic metal again this weekend inside Hangar 19.
