STORY TIME WITH LONN FRIEND

LonnfriendThis weekend inside the Hangar our friend and correspondent Thom Hazaert sat down with Lonn Friend. Lonn was the editor of Rip Magazine from July 1987 to June 1994. During that time he and the magazine helped spread the word of metal and hard rock to fans everywhere, including me. Lonn also wrote for Hustler, was a regular on Headbanger’s Ball, wrote liner notes for Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Iron Maiden, Dio and others, plus wrote 2 books ‘Life on Planet Rock’ and ‘Sweet Demotion.’ Lon has a lot of great stories about the musicians and the magazine.

Faith no moreThis week’s In the Vault will come from Lonn regarding the first time he met Mike Patton as the lead singer of Faith No More.

metallica 2Our Power Set is actually two songs from Metallica and 2 songs from Guns n’ Roses as we revisit that fateful night in Canada when James Hetfield was burnt in a pyro accident and Axel blew up at something and took his band off stage.

Hatriot_cover_TVTIISteve Souza from Exodus is back with a new band called Hatriot. They will be the subject of this week’s Then & Now.

It’s 3 more hours of classic heavy metal this weekend inside Hangar 19, and a movie and soundtrack recomendation from a movie that personally means a lot to our guest Lonn Friend, School of Rock.

The metal movie theater delivers an awesome flick this weekend which featured Iggy Pop in a unique role. We’ll head into the vault with Mike Muir of Suicidal Tendencies and share a ton of classic metal to make mullets proud everywhere. Don’t miss it!
