cropped-gwarbq2014headerThe 5th annual GWAR-B-Q is going to be a can’t miss experience for any GWAR fan after the death of frontman Oderus Urungus (AKA Dave Brockie.) The  night before the party a special memorial will be held in with the head of ceremonies being Jello Biafra of The Dead Kennedy’s. Also recently announced The Misfits will be performing during the B-B-Q as will Hatebreed, Goatwhore, Body Count and more.

Here’s the announcement from GWAR:

GWAR demands that all attend the Dave Brockie Memorial one day before the GWAR B-Q. Fans, friends and possibly protesters from the Westboro Baptist Church will gather from 4:00pmto 7:00pm on Friday, August 15 at Hadad’s Lake. We can now announce that Jello Biafra – punk icon, Dead Kennedys front man and actor in GWAR’s long-form video Skulhedface – will serve as the memorial’s master of ceremonies. Tribute will be paid to both Brockie and Oderus Urungus, as the Scumdog soldier will receive a Viking funeral set ablaze upon the SS Boat. Show up and bid Oderus farewell as he travels to Valhalla and beyond!

danziglogoOver the last couple of years Glen Danzig, the legendary frontman of Danzig, Samhain and of course The Misfits, has been out on the road doing Danzig Legacy shows where he and his band and special guests perform music from all of his bands. Since this year marks the 25th anniversary of Danzig as we know it he again has been on tour celebrating his 25th anniversary. His set has had all the Danzig songs you would expect, plus some Samhain gems and it’s been ending with a set of Misfit tunes featuring his bassist from The Misfits Doyle Von Frankenstein. In honor of the last round of tour dates being booked we help celebrate everything Danzig this weekend.

In honor of all this Danzig stuff this week we go In The Vault with a rare onstage interview with Glenn from 1983 as The Misfits were getting set to release what would be their final album with Danzig called Earth A.D.

Danzig_Thrall_DemonsweatliveDid you know that Danzig’s biggest song “Mother” didn’t become the big hit until it’s re-release on 1993′s Thrall:Demonsweatlive Since this live e.p. spawned his biggest hit we’ll play the four live tracks found on it during this week’s Power Set.

Doyle_ABOMINATORSince we are celebrating all things Danzig this week’s Then & Now features his Misfits band mate Doyle. Doyle’s new album is called Abominator and we’ll lay down a new tune from it plus an old school Misfits song.

And since Danzig’s music has been featured in a few different movies and TV shows, this week’s heavy metal movie and soundtrack recommendation isn’t so much a soundtrack as it is a look at Danzig in pop culture. For example, that time he bought Carl’s house on Aqua Teen Hunger Force because it had running Elf blood going through it.

This plus metal from Rob Zombie, Ozzy, Type O Negative, Metallica and more inside Hangar 19.

Peter_Rodney_Byford_(aka_Biff_Byford)-14339 Biff Byford is the founding singer of one of the most influential metal bands of all time, Saxon. Although the band never made it to the point of Iron Maiden huge as part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal scene of the early 80′s they were 1A and 1B. With the release of their 24th studio album coming this Tuesday March 5th, Biff lays it all down during this edition of Hangar 19.

Speaking of New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Def Leppard are the subject of this week’s In the Vault. This is their appearance on the radio show Rockline in 1981.

danzig-with-doyleDanzig is about to kick off his 25th anniversary tour with his former Misfits band mate Doyle playing with him on most dates. In honor we have a Danzig Power Set for you.

demon_hunter_back_by_Ravens_HeartThis week’s Then & Now is from Demon Hunter in honor of the fact that the man who killed Osama Bin Laden spoke about Demon Hunter during his interview with Esquire Magazine.

Then our movie and soundtrack recommendation this week features one of the most disturbing movies we’ve seen in a long time. The independent film Gummo.

3 hours of classic metal inside Hangar 19.

Fun Fact: Metallica’s Kirk Hammett produced the Death Angel album ‘Kill as One’ so it may not be a suprise that Kirk had Death Angel play his launch party for his book Horror Buisness – The Kirk Hammett Collection on November 1st. The cool part is when Kirk himself got on stage with Death Angel to perform versions of Kiss’ “She,” Misfist’s “Horror Business” and the Metallica song “Trapped Under Ice.”

This is fan filmed footage but it’s fun to watch. Kirk’s book is available where ever you buy books.
